    Horror cinema is in a way as old as cinema itself. This is often a grey area and highly debated, with many different opinions on what is actually the first ‘Horror Film’. The term horror movie probably didn’t enter our vocabulary or become its own entity until the Universal Monster movies of the 1930’s. However if we refer to the term as drawing on Gothic elements, the intent to shock or surprise, and the supernatural, then we can certainly trace it back to the early years of film making.     Seeing as it is Friday the 13th today, I decided to make a fun post to start off my revamped blog. I have soft spot for these movies, even the terrible ones. Not the best horror films or franchise, but there’s something about them that seemed to perfect the slasher formula – Even if most of the resulting blends aren’t among the highly esteemed. But the first four nail the sub-genre in my opinion, and a couple of the later ones are a fun watch too.     Like most horror fans, I’ve loved horror and all things scary and eerie since I can remember. I vaguely remember sneaking into my sister’s bedroom late one night to watch Halloween. Must have been around seven or eight at the time. I probably managed to last around 30 minutes before retreating to bed with my tail between my legs. However it stuck with me.
